SOME 1000 trees were planted in Pakenham recently.
Residents were encouraged to join Cardinia Shire Council staff in planting trees along Toomuc Creek on Saturday 3 September.
Event organiser Dusty Macgraw of Viridian Energy Australia said 400 trees were planted by keen volunteers during a morning shift and a further 600 were planted within two hours that afternoon.
“It was great to meet and work alongside people who are so enthusiastic about the environment,” Mr Macgraw said.
“We all had a good laugh and a great day of achievement.”
Pakenham mother Wendy Adhofer was one of about 25 who gave up her time to assist in the tree planting event.
“It was great to get out and participate in a local activity that is helping the community,” she said.
“It was a good learning experience for my daughter too. She learnt about tools in horticulture and we had a chat about the importance of trees in the ecosystem.
“It will be great to go back and see the trees established in the future and know that we were part of it.”
