A BERWICK fund-raiser attracted thousands to raise about $2000 for prostate cancer research.
Akoonah Park Men’s Shed held a fund-raiser on 11 September in conjunction with the Sunday Market to kick off Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
Volunteers ran a sausage sizzle and sold raffle tickets for prizes including home hardware products, an office chair and bar fridge.
The crowd was also entertained by Berwick and District Folk Club performers.
Prostate Cancer Foundation state manager John Strachan and Federal member for La Trobe Jason Wood attended on the day.
Akoonah Park Men’s Shed president Lindsay Harding said the fund-raiser had been a successful day.
“It was a very happy day, everyone had a good time,” he said.
“It was the second time, and I dare say we’ll do it again next year as well.
“We didn’t need to cover any basic outlay costs because everything was donated by local businesses, so every cent went to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.”
