POLICE ejected several revved up spectators responsible for a series of “spot fights” which erupted at the footy grand final in Garfield on the weekend.
At least one can was thrown at a player during the Ellinbank and District Football League (EDFL) senior grand final between Cora Lynn and Bunyip on Saturday 17 September, and police received reports a spectator was also hit in the head with a flying can.
Pakenham Police Senior Sergeant Nathan Prowd said he would be following up with the league, and called for the possible banning of cans on and around the footy field.

Police also reported a man suffered a split lip.
No-one has been charged in relation to the brawls.
EDFL manager and secretary Ken Moore said the league beefed up its security and police presence for the grand final.
He described the crowd as being overall well behaved.
“We don’t tolerate that sort of thing. Every person has the responsibility to act with some decorum in a public place,” he said.
Sen Sgt Prowd proposed the possible banning of canned drinks on and around the footy grounds.
“Objects like this on the ground are strongly frowned upon, and we will be following up with the league.”
Cora Lynn Football Club president Andrew Bergmeier was contacted for comment.
“There’s too much speculation about it for us to comment. It’s a league matter and it’s up to them,” he said.
