WHAT is better than a drought breaking premiership for the Western Bulldogs?
For Victoria Police Road Policing Command it is a long weekend with no deaths on the roads.
Police were out in force across the state throughout the long weekend as part of Operation Scoreboard.
Road Policing Assistant Commissioner Doug Fryer said he was very pleased no lives were lost.
“This is the first long weekend operation in five years that no lives have been lost,” he said.
“It is a fantastic result and I thank everyone who played their part by staying safe on the roads.
“Unfortunately we did still detect a significant amount of people taking serious risks with not only their own lives but also the lives of others.
“Our officers caught 250 drink drivers and 202 people driving with illicit drugs in their system.
“Every one of these incidents could have ended in tragedy and I’m grateful we were able to play our role and detect them before they could hurt anyone.”
Police conducted more than 127,000 breath tests and more than 1900 drug test during the operation with detection rates 1:509 and 1:9 respectively.
General offences detected during the operation included:
• 201 disqualified/suspended drivers;
• 315 unlicensed drivers;
• 865 unregistered vehicles;
• 2276 speeding offences;
• 243 mobile phone offences;
• 386 disobey signs/signals;
• 66 vehicle impounds;
• 195 seat belt offences.
