COMIC enthusiasts will be able to snatch up free copies of their favourite series in Beaconsfield next weekend.
As October creeps closer to Halloween, comic book store Secret Headquarters will hold a horror-themed free comic day to coincide with the annual Halloween Comic Festival on Saturday 29 October.
Business owner Kirsty Litkowski said each year many people dressed up as comic book characters, in keeping with the Halloween theme.
“There will be face painting to help people look the part. My kids like dressing up as The Crow, Chuckie, The Raven and Beetlejuice,“ she said.
“There’ll be heaps of free horror comics based around Halloween plus classics and favourites like DC Super Hero Girls, Darth Vader, Scooby Doo, Spider-Man and My Little Pony.
“This event is a good way to introduce comics to younger people or anyone of any age, to tell you the truth. There’s a huge local interest in comics, especially when new movies come out based on some of these stories.
“There’s also a push from parents trying to get their kids away from technology and into reading.
“Comics are a great way of getting kids – especially boys – into reading and because there are some issues that are released every fortnight, it teaches kids about patience as well.”
Ms Litkowski said some of the more popular comics included The Crow, Army of Darkness and the Walking Dead.
She said the next Free Comic Book Day would be held on Saturday 6 May.
