AS part of it’s Trans Auckland Tour, the Melbourne Cup entourage visited Hillview Bunyip Aged Care last Thursday, 20 October on its destination to Flemington Racecourse.
The township of Bunyip and the Hillview Hostel were abuzz with anticipation and excitement as residents from Hillview, Hillview’s Independent Living Units, Management, Hillview Board members and staff, as well as residents of Bunyip gathered in the Hill Centre Reception Room for the Cup’s arrival.
As the entourage entered the Hill Centre, there was a standing ovation and cheering.
Cardinia Shire councillors, Graeme Moore and David Young were also in attendance.
The Melbourne Cup was placed in a prominent position for all to see and those who wanted to have their photo taken with the Cup were invited to do so.
A white glove had to be worn on the hand that came into contact with the pure gold Cup.
The Cup was available for photos for an hour and a half so that everyone had the opportunity to have their photo taken.
Hillview CEO Frank Hoff welcomed the entourage and those present and called on veteran race caller legend, Bryan Martin, to speak at length about the history of the Melbourne Cup as well as how he became involved in racing as a young boy to eventually become one of the most respected and accurate race callers in Australia.
Bryan then called a phantom Hillview Cup, which was won by Phar Lap.
Flemington Fashion advisor Georgia Connolly spoke about her role in this year’s Melbourne Cup.
