THERE were approximately 475 export and 325 young cattle penned representing a decrease of 330 head week-on-week at the Victorian Livestock Exchange.
The regular buying group was present and operating more selectively in a cheaper market.
Quality was very mixed with a more limited selection of prime cattle on offer.
Heavy vealers suited to butcher orders eased 5 cents to 15 cents per kilogram for most.
Yearling trade steers slipped 20 cents to 40 cents while the heifer portion was back 20 cents to 25 cents. Grown steers and bullocks eased 12 cents to 26 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish were off 11 cents with the crossbred manufacturing steers 14 cents cheaper.
Heavy weight vealers suited to butchers sold from 353 cents to 412 cents. Yearling trade steers made between 320 cents and 365 cents.
Yearling heifers to the trade sold mostly between 294 cents and 342 cents after a top of 390 cents.
Medium weight steers to feed lots and re-stockers made from 312 cents to 347 cents.
Grown steers sold from 305 cents to 326 cents.
Bullocks made between 308 cents and 319 cents.
Heavy weight grown heifers showing good finish sold between 280 cents and 310 cents.
Heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made from 238 cents to 288 cents with the crossbred portion from 257 cents to 314 cents.
