RESIDENTS living in fear in their own neighbourhood are expected to speak out at an upcoming crime forum in Pakenham.
Hosted by Gembrook MP Brad Battin, the forum will allow residents to discuss their crime concerns, which will be delivered to the State Government.
Crime is overwhelmingly the greatest issue facing people in Cardinia Shire and Casey, according to Mr Battin who drew on electoral survey results.
“We have nearly daily calls of concerned residents including victims of crime,” he said.
“The main concern from residents is lack of police in the area, concerns about safety in their own neighbourhoods.
“It is important in opposition we talk about the legislation we would bring to government and listen to feedback from the communities affected.”
The forum will be held at Outlook Community Centre in Pakenham from 7.30pm on Wednesday 16 November.
Residents will have the opportunity to speak with Shadow Minister for Police Edward O’Donohue, Shadow Attorney General John Presutto and members from the Cardinia Neighbourhood Watch group.
Crime statistics show overall increase in offending in Cardinia Shire and Casey over the past 12 months.
