AN eight-year-old girl from Selby has died and four others including two children have been hospitalised with serious injuries following a crash in Emerald.
It’s believed the child victims – aged 8 to 13 – were siblings. Police said the young girl died at the scene of the two-car collision on Belgrave-Gembrook Road after 3.45pm on Tuesday 22 November.
It’s believed a west-bound car carrying the fatally injured girl, a 10-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy from Selby collided with a car travelling east.
The car was being driven by a 50-year-old Selby woman who was also taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the other car has been identified as a 22-year-old Belgrave South woman.
She was hospitalised with minor injuries.
The road was shut down for several hours.
Emerald SES released a statement online.
“Our thoughts go to our community at this sad time. Many thanks go to all first responders who tried their very best. Thanks also to the public for stopping and assisting. RIP.”
