SIMULATION laboratories make up a new $10 million high-tech medical training facility set for Berwick.
The Berwick Health Centre of Excellence will form part of the Chisholm Institute, located in the region’s health precinct.
The centre will feature nurse training and simulation laboratories, learning areas and staff accommodation.
Minister for Training and Skills, Gayle Tierney, made the announcement on Friday 25 November in response to the increased demand for nurse training in the area.
“We are putting people first in Melbourne’s south-east by making sure their local TAFE has state-of-the-art teaching facilities to train nurses to meet growing local needs,” he said.
The TAFE also received $300,000 from the State Government’s Specialised Teaching Equipment Initiative for health training equipment including a new adult patient simulator and an automated medication dispensing system.
From 2017, Chisholm Institute will join forces with La Trobe University to offer degrees across Melbourne’s southeast including degrees in healthcare, creating pathways for students to move from TAFE to university.
The centre will be located on Kangan Drive, close to Casey Hospital and St John of God Berwick.
