Lang Lang Show has been described as holding “one of the best” cattle shows in country Victoria by an industry judge.
Attendance at this year’s event however dropped to just over 1000 people in the absence of the popular showjumping event, which was postponed due to a clash with the World Cup Showjumping event at Boneo Park.
The showjumping event will take place on Saturday 28 January, commencing from 7.30am at the Lang Lang Showgrounds.
Lang Lang Show secretary Cheryl Berry said it was a shame there had been a clash in events.
“It meant a loss of people and the vendors all reported a quieter day than normal,” she said.
But the dog show continued to attract a high number of entries, with more than 500 dogs competing.
Berwick’s Alan and Jill Furborough dominated many of the cattle categories this year including Junior Cattle Champion, Senior Cattle Champion, Grand Cattle Champion, Senior Cattle Champion (Female) and Supreme Cattle Exhibit.
Cardinia Shire mayor Brett Owen drew the lucky gate prize, which was awarded to Morgen, a young Lang Lang girl. She won a push bike and matching blue helmet.
Ms Berry said the weather could not have been more perfect.
“We’ve added Welsh ponies to the program in the past few years, which has been popular among the Welsh community,” she said.
“We had a terrific Beef Cattle Spectacular, with a total of 25 animals competing.
“The cattle judge said that this year’s Lang Lang Cattle Spectacular was one of the best cattle shows in country Victoria.”
Ms Berry thanked the many volunteers who were “essential” to the running of such a big event, the sponsors and the community for its support.
