An alleged burglary from a historic Bunyip church has saddened parishioners and police alike.
Police report that sometime between Sunday 5 and Wednesday 8 February, an unknown person or persons entered St Thomas’ Anglican Church on A’Beckett Street, taking a communion box containing a chalice and communion plate and bell.
Police say there was no sign of forced entry and there were no witnesses to the incident.
According to the church, the items were noticed missing prior to commencement of Wednesday’s weekly service.
St Thomas’ Parish priest, Father Ken Parker said he was disappointed to think that someone would want to steal from a church.
He said he hoped whoever stole the items would find a way to return them.
Anyone with information about the incident can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
