Car rally keeps them flying in the outback

Rotary Club of Berwick president Mark Caulfield makes a donation to RFDS CEO Scott Chapman.

A Berwick Rotarian will adventure through the outback for a good cause.
David Nutter and team-mates Barry Pitcher, Laurie Fenton and John Tolley will take part in their third Outback Car Trek during June in support of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
They’ll drive a Ford Galaxy Black Cavalier 4000 kilometres in seven days through some of the most remote and harsh areas of inland Australia – the kind of territory the RFDS has built a reputation for helping since Rev John Flynn established it in 1928.
Together they’ve raised $72,000 over the years, and a cheque from Rotary Club of Berwick brought their fund-raising for this year to $33,000 so far.
There are 92 RFDS ambulances in Victoria, used for inter-hospital patient transport, mobile eye care services, mobile dental clinics, taking female doctors to rural towns, and helping farmers receive mental health care.
The service needs $50 million a year to keep flying.
