The launch of a new Facebook page will give local police a direct avenue to communicate with the public.
The Cardinia Eyewatch Facebook page, launched on 28 February, will be used to assist police in solving local incidents such as burglaries and thefts, and to help locate missing and wanted people.
Inspector Shane Smith said the new Eyewatch page would allow police to share vital safety information relevant to the Cardinia community, call for witnesses to local crimes as well as seek assistance when looking for missing persons.
“The page also allows us to open up more of discussion with our community and let them know what we are doing to enhance their safety,” Insp Smith said.
The community played an important part in crime prevention and management, he said.
“It is also a great avenue to provide crime prevention information to the Cardinia community in order to reduce the likelihood of them becoming a victim of crime,” Insp Smith said.
“By working together and sharing information, we can make Cardinia a safer and more inclusive place to live and work.”
There are currently 26 Victoria Police Eyewatch pages across the state’s municipalities.
Insp Smith encouraged local residents, businesses and community organisations to hit ‘like’ and follow the new Cardinia page.
