A three-hectare grass fire broke out in Upper Beaconsfield on Sunday afternoon.
Emergency services were called to Manestar Road, about 12.40pm, to the fire that was started by unknown causes.
An advice warning was issued by the Country Fire Authority at 1.27pm, alerting residents of smoke impacted properties south of Manestar Road.
The road was also closed to traffic as firefighters worked to control the fire.
The fire backed onto housing but a CFA spokesperson said there was no threat to communities and no homes were damaged.
Twelve fire crews fought the blaze, which was brought under control just after 2.30pm.
