Big food trucks are back

Huge crowds flocked to last year's Berwick Food Truck Carnival.

Australia’s biggest food truck carnival is coming back to Berwick this summer, serving up tasty treats from Melbourne’s finest food trucks for the local community to enjoy, all while raising funds to help sick children in need.
Running from Friday 16 March to Monday 19 March, the four-day Berwick Food Truck Carnival will offer a selection of mouth-watering international dishes as well as a range of entertainment options, helping to raise funds for the Monash Children’s Hospital.
Although entry to the carnival is free, funds from various components will be donated to the hospital, including amusement rides, face painting, roaming entertainment and parking.
Event organiser Danny Grant said the Berwick Food Truck Carnival was part of a dozen food truck carnivals being held across suburban Melbourne over the summer period, aiming to raise $100,000 to $150,000 for the hospital.
“It’s great to be able to support such a wonderful cause across our 2016-’17 Summer Carnival Tour.
“We attracted 50,000 people to our inaugural food truck carnival in Berwick in March and thought it would be awesome to be able to use these large crowds to help a worthy cause.
“At the same time, we are giving families in regional and suburban areas the opportunity to enjoy Melbourne’s premium offering of food trucks and carnival entertainment that isn’t normally available in the city’s outskirts.
“We are trying to build a breath-taking carnival atmosphere for people of all ages to enjoy. People can sit back and enjoy their delicious food with an ice-cold beer, jump on one of the rides or maybe watch some balloon-twisters and stilt walkers with the kids.”
Uruguayan-inspired food truck El Chivi will be one of many vendors at the carnival, serving deliciously authentic chivitos (steak sandwiches).
Owners Marty and Anna Eppel love bringing a piece of their culture to Melbourne.
“Since my family relocated in the ’70s we have never seen anywhere else try and re-create these amazing steak sandwiches!”
Take your tastebuds on a trip around the world with a range of cuisines to choose from including indian, Spanish, Taiwanese, Greek, Italian, Korean, Brazilian and more.
