Members of the West Gippsland Group of the Country Women’s Association wearing their Sunday best stepped back in time to a forgotten era when they met at the Evergreen Retirement Village Club Rooms recently to raise funds for their organisation.
The guest speaker was Pakenham branch life member Margaret McKay whose topic was 100 years of Social History Through Recipes.
Margaret has a vast range of recipes books dating back as far as 1896.
These recipe books not only had long-forgotten recipes but also included hints on how to run a home or a particular way of lighting a gas stove.
Afternoon tea was set out on china serving plates and the tables set with linen cloths, bone china cups and plates, silver cake forks and spoons.
Margaret also has a vast array of kitchen utensils used through the years including a tea trolley made by her father in 1930 which was set up as her mother use to for entertaining friends for afternoon tea.
Thanks were expressed to the Evergreen Retirement Village for allowing members to use the rooms for holding this function.
