Residents and staff are recovering from an isolated gastro outbreak at the Millhaven Lodge aged care facility in Pakenham.
Millhaven Lodge CEO Linda Austen said that a number of staff and residents had displayed symptoms of gastroenteritis in the past week.
Ms Austen said those affected were isolated as per company policy, while the Department of Health and local council were notified of the outbreak.
“Staff stay away for 48 hours clear of symptoms and we restrict access to our residents as much as possible in the hope of containing it,” Ms Austen said.
Residents were “doing well” on Monday and the incident appeared to be over, the CEO said.
The cause of the outbreak was not yet known, however the facility has ruled out it being food borne due to its isolated occurrence.
“Our staff know what to do as it happens from time to time and may be brought in by visitors or others.
“Samples have been taken but results will not be known straight away,” Ms Austen said.
