Heart attack MP in emergency stopover

Gippsland South MP Danny O'Brien will take a break after suffering a heart attack on Friday night.

Gippsland South MP Danny O’Brien had an unexpected stopover in Berwick on Friday night.
The National Party member was driving home to Gippsland after the UDV Conference dinner when he felt unwell and made a wise decision to pull in at Casey Hospital.
Mr O’Brien was quickly transferred to Monash Medical Centre for treatment, where he will remain for a few more days. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Nationals leader Peter Walsh said Mr O’Brien’s experience was a sage reminder of the importance of knowing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and of seeking medical help without delay.
“On behalf of the Liberal Nationals, we wish Danny a swift recovery and send our very best wishes to his wife and family,” Mr Walsh said.
“We also thank the medical teams at Casey Hospital and Monash Medical Centre for taking great care of our valued Member for Gippsland South.
“On doctor’s orders, Danny will take a break from his Parliamentary duties.”
Mr Walsh said the electorate office at Sale would remain open and staff would continue to help Gippsland South constituents while the MP recuperates.
