Flying doctor speaker flies in

Club member Merrilee Pawley thanks Annette Allison for her address.

A very special guest speaker delighted Pakenham East Probus Club members at last week’s general meeting.
Annette Allison OAM gave an outstanding presentation on the role of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, which works to assist country Australians in many ways.
Pictured on the $20 note is The Reverend John Flynn, who was the founder of the world’s first air ambulance.
The first flight of the aerial medical service was in 1928 from Cloncurry.
A stone cairn has been erected in the Victorian gold town of Moliagul to honour this great pioneer who was born there in 1880.
The RFDS provides 24-hour aeromedical emergency services that can reach anywhere in the country, no matter how remote, within hours.
It also provides a myriad of other vital health services including mobile dental vans, eye clinics, patient transfers, fly-in-fly-out GP and nurse clinics to name a few.
This extraordinary organisation aims to ensure that those living in rural and remote areas are able to enjoy the same health services as those living in city areas, and it’s free.
As a non-profit aeromedical organisation, the RFDS relies on the public’s help and generosity to keep the fleet of more than 68 aircraft flying and its other vital services sustainable.
Many members recognised Annette Allison from her TV days as the co-host of Good Morning Australia. She is a community spirited dynamic lady, well-suited to the role of a presenter and a valuable representative of the RFDS.
Club member Merrilee Pawley had pleasure in thanking Annette for her enlightening presentation.
