Buyers quiet in a cheaper market

There were approximately 190 export and 120 young cattle penned at Pakenham’s Victorian Livestock Exchange representing a decrease of 80 head week-on-week.
The usual buying group was present but not all operating fully in a mixed market which was cheaper in places.
Quality remained mixed with a limited but good selection of grown steers and bullocks and a heavier offering of trade cattle.
There were barely any vealers and the heavier selection of yearling trade cattle sold up to 10 cents cheaper with the better grain assisted lots most affected.
Grown steers and bullocks sold from firm to slightly dearer. Dairy manufacturing steers sold dearer for better quality.
Vealers reached a top of 328 cents, yearling trade steers sold from 294 cents to 325 cents, yearling heifers to the trade made between 285 cents and 315 cents, grown steers sold between 270 cents and 298 cents.
Bullocks made from 279 cents to 295 cents, heavy weight grown heifers sold from 252 cents to 268 cents, heavy weight Friesian manufacturing steers made between 252 cents and 270 cents with the crossbred portion between 266 cents and 290 cents.
