Scratching a $100,000 itch

A Berwick man has won $100,000 on a scratchie.

A young man from Berwick is one step closer to purchasing his first home after he scratched $100,000 on a $5 Instant Scratch-Its Crosswords ticket.
The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said he couldn’t believe he had won the top prize.
“I had bought two Crosswords tickets and as we were in a rush to get out of the house I only had the chance to scratch the first one and it was the first one that I scratched that was a winner,” the man said.
“It came as a big surprise. I’ve only ever won a couple of bucks here and there, but nothing of note – I’ve never won anything of note at all.
“When you play them, sometimes you think no-one ever wins, so the win definitely came as a big shock, and I still don’t believe it has happened!
“It’s just crazy, but it’s good – it’s definitely made my year.”
When asked how he planned to spend his Instant Scratch-Its windfall, the winner said he would spend it sensibly.
“We won’t be spending it on any crazy holidays,” he said.
“We are thinking we will put it towards a deposit for our first home.”
The top prize winning $5 Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket was purchased at Parkhill Berwick News and Lotto.
Sunny Singh is the store owner and said she was extremely excited to have sold a top prize on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket.
“We are so pleased to hear that a regular customer has scratched a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket,” Ms Singh said.
