The inaugural Pakenham Village Fest has been hailed as one of the most diverse gatherings in recent years.
The festival, held on 21 October, was organised by the Pakenham Community Garden to promote not only the garden, but a simpler, more sustainable life.
Festivities included culturally diverse hot food vans, a farmers’ market stall selling fruits, vegetables, eggs and honey from local producers, and a stall selling a range of edible indigenous and annual vegetable seedlings.
There were also a number of workshops on offer, teaching residents everything from scarecrow making to sanitation and T-shirt printing.
Residents were also encouraged to walk or ride to the event.
Pakenham Community Garden spokesperson Max Godber said for its first run, the Village Fest went really well.
“Feedback was there’s never been anything like that in Pakenham, that there’s never been such a diverse event,” Mr Godber said.
Organisers have plans to make the festival an annual event and hope applications for funding will prove successful.
“We want to do more,” Mr Godber said.
“It was great to see so many people celebrate the community and celebrate food.
“It was really encouraging to see how much support for the event there was.”
