Beaconsfield’s Kenilworth Avenue is set to be sealed, putting an end to resident frustrations.
Stacey Kennedy spoke to the Gazette on 19 October outlining her anger at the state of her local dirt road, which she said had resulted in $2000 worth of damage to her almost-new car.
“It needs to be graded more regularly. You shouldn’t spend $60,000 on a new car then less than 12 months later need to pay $2000 in damage repairs,” Ms Kennedy said.
A frustrated Ms Kennedy said she was all too often ringing up Cardinia Shire Council to grade the dirt track.
A more permanent solution was needed, she said.
“They grade it and it’s good for a few days but that’s it,” Ms Kennedy said.
It was graded a week ago and already the potholes are back.
“There’s got to be a better answer.”
Cardinia Shire Council’s development co-ordinator Ken White said the council was aware of resident concerns and said that relief was in sight.
“The sealing of Kenilworth Avenue, Beaconsfield is a development-funded project under the Developer Contributions Plan, which will be commencing soon,” Mr White said.
“The contractor will be erecting variable message sign boards onsite in the coming weeks to alert residents and road users of the imminent works.”
The development co-ordinator said September rain had created “significant” potholing in the municipality’s unsealed roads.
“These were addressed as quickly as council was able,” Mr White said.
“We recognise that Kenilworth Avenue, Beaconsfield, carries high traffic loads for an unsealed road and have worked with the contractor to accelerate the sealing of the road.”
