The Lakeside Sailing Club saw a record number of turnouts at its annual Discover Sailing Day on Sunday 5 November.
Club commodore Stewart Baker said members were “ecstatic” about seeing close to 100 people turn up to their family fun event over the weekend.
The free event aimed to draw in community members who had never sailed before.
“The day was absolutely fantastic,” Mr Baker said.
“This year we took out our record number of attendees as we had close to 100 people turn up.
“We didn’t even have any signs up and had people arriving from nine o’clock onwards and we were still sailing until about two in the afternoon.”
The club wanted to welcome community members to the world of sailing and show how fun, accessible and affordable it is.
“We had a lot of people come who had never been on the water before.
“They were all thrilled that they could try out sailing while having the security of experienced sailors going with them.
“The kids got to have a turn steering too – it was great to see them enjoying themselves.
“It was the perfect weather for a day on the water.”
