The red rose is a symbol of friendship, gratitude and love in all Inner Wheel Clubs worldwide.
The late Betty Pritchard, a talented artist and charter member of the Inner Wheel Club of Pakenham, painted her version of the Inner Wheel Rose and gave a copy of this painting to all her office bearers in the year that she was president.
It was this image that members Alma Elliott and Alwyn Williams used as the basis of the new club banner, which was presented to President Erica Peck at the club’s 31st birthday celebration earlier this month.
A photo of the painted rose was sent to America where a counted thread cross-stitch chart was formulated.
After many months of work by Alwyn and Alma, this beautiful embroidery is now the centrepiece of the new banner.
The club’s much-loved member Betty Pritchard succumbed to motor neurone disease.
To raise money for MND research at the Florey Institute it now sells ‘Betty’s Rose’ on notelets.
