The National Gallery of London’s 2300-piece collection has been topped by a local primary school.
The annual Pakenham Springs art show had a whopping 3000 individual pieces on display last week on Thursday 16 November.
Taking about a day and a half to set up, the exhibition showed off the work of every student from Prep to Grade 6.
“The children were really excited to see their work framed and on display,” junior art teacher Claire Bowsner said.
“We put up all the artworks in random order so it was like a bit of a treasure hunt for students to find their artwork.
“Having a Gazette photographer there added to the excitement and atmosphere too!
One of the highlights was a large mural done in collaboration with acclaimed artist Max Darby.
“Max had a lovely rapport with the children.
“The school community collected lots of old CDs which they used for the mural.
“He took each class for a lesson where they painted their own CDs.”
The show had all sorts of media on display, from 2D to 3D perspective work.
“We’re super proud because of how hard the kids have tried and to see how they’ve progressed over the years.
“It was great for them to look at all the different art styles that they will be doing in the years to come.”
