A sunny spring day brought out the numbers to this year’s Music on the Grass.
More than 500 people attended the community event, held in the gardens of the Kooweerup Regional Health Service, on 19 November.
Now in its fifth year, the community event, held with support from Cardinia Shire Council, showcased talented local musicians and school groups who entertained crowds under the trees and on the lawns.
Cardinia country music artist Bec Hance headlined this year’s event and wowed spectators with her tunes.
Health service volunteer co-ordinator Maria Canty said Music on the Grass highlighted all that was good about Cardinia Shire.
“Just like an old-style country fair, people came from far and wide to get together and enjoy the music, craft stalls, wander through the community garden, children entertained with the jumping castle, painting and free treats throughout the day,” Ms Canty said.
The Kooweerup Men’s Shed catered for the mass crowd’s grumbly tummies with lunch and fresh produce stalls, while hospital staff and the ladies auxiliary offered Devonshire tea, raffles and cake stalls, as fund-raisers for much-needed equipment.
Local service clubs and community groups offering information also attended to promote their services.
Cardinia Shire councillor Graeme Moore was on hand to introduce the event, as too were health service CEO Frank Megens and Men’s Shed president George Fittock, who bestowed their ongoing support and goodwill for the day.
Ms Canty thanked all those involved in the day’s running, especially health service volunteer Jane Coupe for donating many hours of time ensure a high quality and entertaining program.
