 1.Emerald Police refuted the need for a 24-hour station despite residents’ rising fears over escalating violence and vandalism. Acting Sergeant Stuart Halligan said there wasn’t enough work in the hills to warrant a 24-hour station despite the recent increase in violence.
2. A mechanic from Nar Nar Goon North had to walk 40 minutes for help after he was bitten by an eastern tiger snake. Kyle Osborne said he was hunting deer at the family property when he was bitten. Surprisingly, the 22-year-old remained calm despite the puncture marks on his hand from the dangerously venomous snake.
3. Motorsport enthusiasts applauded loudly as civic leaders voted in favour to use vacant land on McGregor Road for a recreational vehicle facility. The 60-plus people who packed the council gallery witnessed a fiery meeting which saw councillors vote four to three to grant recreational vehicle permit applications from the Pakenham Auto Club and Kooweerup and District Motorcycle Club to use the 134-hectare council owned site.
