with dance teacher of 30 years, Gretta Urquhart.

1. What is something people don’t know about you?
I love comedy as much as I love dance. Life can be too serious.

2. What was your most memorable moment?
As a dancer: playing one of the murderers in Cell Block Tango in Chicago. As a teacher: every moment.

3. What’s the best thing about teaching dance?
The best thing about teaching dance is helping a student to gain a skill and the confidence that follows; particularly one that they have struggled to achieve.

4. What is your favourite book?
The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham.

5. What is your favourite style of dancing?
Hard question! Probably Musical Theatre, although ballet is such a physical triumph it is hard to ignore.

6. At school I…
At school I ran a one girl rebellion by wearing my uniform way too long in protest over the strict ‘4 inches above the knee’ policy.

7. Which six guests, dead or alive, would you invite to a dinner party?
My best man, friend and husband Chris Urquhart, Kathy Lette, Graeme Murphy, Lucille Ball, Che Guevara and Tony Abbott. I said that I love comedy!

8. What is the funniest thing that’s happened on stage?
A bit of biffo between two girls in the babies group over who stands where in the line.

9. What is your hobby other than dancing?
I have discovered that gardening is a form of meditation; no matter what else in the world, plants keep growing. A new shoot reminds me that life goes on.

10. What was your first or best concert?
Alice in Wonderland because there’s so much comic material – especially with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and the Mad Hatter’s tea party.
