The Baw Baw Shire council is inviting community feedback on the draft Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2018-2022 to help identify and guide sustainable priorities and actions over the next four years.
The draft strategy identifies ways to protect and enhance Baw Baw Shire’s natural environment assets and mitigate the causes and consequences of climate change.
The associated four-year action plan outlines commitments and actions that will guide work that both Council and the community can do to manage our environment and improve its sustainability.
Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Councillor Joe Gauci is encouraging residents and community members to get involved and have their say on the draft strategy.
“With beautiful forests, mountains, rivers and productive green landscapes, Baw Baw Shire is an extremely enriching place to live”, said the Mayor.
“In the face of rapid urban growth, it’s important we have a concise strategy to help protect and enhance our natural environment for our own liveability, livelihood and for our future generations.
“We have worked closely with our Environmental Sustainability Team and Environmental Voice Advisory Committee to identify three key pillars that set the tone for the strategy: natural environment, climate change adaptation and mitigation and sustainable development.
“There is also a strong focus on better integration of environmental sustainability into Council’s core business.
“It’s important that the community let us know if they agree with the proposals in the draft strategy so that we have a collaborative approach to our Shire’s sustainability practices.”
The draft strategy and associated four-year action plan can be accessed at Council’s Have Your Say webpage with feedback submissions open until 5.00pm on Wednesday 11 April 2018.
Following the consultation period, feedback will be consolidated and considered by council at a future meeting.
