Evergreen Retirement Village was transported to the Scottish Highlands for an afternoon with a visit from the Victoria Police Pipe Band.
Established in 1936 by a small group of full-time police officers, the Victoria Police Pipe Band is a former Grade One World Championship-winning pipe band.
The Melbourne-based pipers make up Australia’s most successful pipe band, having obtained three third-place results at the World Pipe Band Championships.
“The Victoria Police Pipe Band was an absolute hit with the residents,” event organiser Sharyn Allsopp said.
“We had 70-plus people here enjoying the music. There was a lot of emotion as a couple of our girls were born in Scotland.
“I was extremely moved at the emotions that were flooding from some of them.”
Topped off with a sausage sizzle and other treats, the day was such a success that the village plans to invite them back.
“It was great to see people come along and enjoy something a little different.
“I would put this day down to one of the best events we have ever held in the village.
“I will be definitely having them out again next year.”
