The state government has officially wiped their hands of the massive purpose-built factory on Greenhills Road in Pakenham.
A media spokesperson for the state’s Level Crossing Removal Project said the site has been officially decommissioned, leaving questions over the millions of taxpayer dollars spent on the short-lived project.
“The site will not come to fruition for another state government project,” the spokesperson said.
“The land was being leased by the owner for the project and has now been given back to the landowner.
“We are not sure what will happen to the land now.”
The pre cast yard at Pakenham was built for the specific purpose of casting custom-sized concrete pieces for the Caulfield to Dandenong level crossing removal project, set to remove nine level crossings and create 22.5 hectares of parkland by the end of 2018.
The site was cleared out in January this year, 12 months earlier than anticipated.
