The Kooweerup Newcomers and Neighbours dinner hosted by the local Lion’s Club on Friday 25 May was deemed a roaring success by attendees.

Sponsored by Kooweerup’s Stockdale & Leggo and Bendigo Bank, the dinner aimed to promote social cohesion and community spirit for those old and new in the township.

“It was a very successful night for the Newcomers and Neighbours dinner,” Stockdale & Leggo’s Deanne Peck said.

“It was pleasing to see the show of support and especially the great work done by the Lions Club newer members Jacqui Armstrong, Shirelle Lean, Linda and Rex Sanders in setting up.

“The line-up of quest speakers was most informative and the musician Chantelle Riordan was excellent.

“A big thanks to the Kooweerup Ventures for their work in the Kitchen.”

Almost 110 guests showed up to the colourfully-decorated community hall, which was decked out with balloons, flowers and bright table settings.

“The idea behind the big event was to give newcomers and those who have been in the town for a while an opportunity to get to know each other in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and at the same time find out about some other businesses and services offered in Kooweerup.”

Guest speakers included Youth Worker Brian Harlow, Kooweerup RSL President John Camilleri, Senior Citizens Club President Diane DiVola, Kooweerup Secondary School Assistant Principal Leonie McGinley and Kooweerup Men’s Shed President George Fittock.

Between presentations guests were treated to a two course buffet dinner provided by local butcher Bunyip Meats and prizes were awarded to those who answered general knowledge questions, together with lucky seat prizes.

The grand raffle was awarded to Deanne Peck who had sold the most tickets for the second consecutive year.
