Over 50 volunteer members gave up their Sunday morning to perform vital firefighter exercises.

Hosted by the Cockatoo CFA on Sunday 24 June Cockatoo at the Mountain Road Reserve, volunteers practiced a hose lay, BA Search and Rescue, relay pumping and also had the added experience of the Rehab section from Yellingbo.

“A huge thanks to Cockatoo’s training Officer Marcus Harris and Captain Chris White who was tasked with the job of Incident Controller for the morning,” Brigade Administrative Support Officer Lisa Hicks said.

“This type of training although scenario based is crucial to the volunteers who are always ready to put their lives on the lines for the community they serve.

“It was a great opportunity for brigades to take part and train together in a controlled exercise.”

The Cockatoo, Gembrook, Pakenham Upper, Yellingbo, Emerald, Scorseby Hoselayer brigades were also thanked for their involvement.

“A huge thank you to the guys from Frankston BA Bus – such a long way to come on a Sunday morning.

“They refilled all the BA cylinders for the volunteers during the search and rescue training, without them attending this component of the exercise would not have been possible.”
