SOCCER WRAP – ROUND 15

STATE LEAGUE 1 – SOUTH EAST

Casey Comets suffered a tough loss against Richmond SC on Saturday afternoon at Comets Stadium, 6-0.

The struggling Comets found themselves 4-0 down at half time, and despite putting on a more competitive showing in the second half, conceded a further two goals in the second half.

Juan Gallego Vera was the star for Richmond, scoring a triple, while Evangelos Skraparas scored a brace.

Warragul United, meanwhile, drew 2-2 with Malvern City at Baxter Park, while South Springvale also suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to Beaumaris SC at Warner Reserve.

United are in some strong form heading into the latter stages of the season, and sit fourth on the table with a 7-5 record, and have the third best defence in the league.

STATE LEAGUE 2 – SOUTH EAST

Doveton SC relinquished top spot on the State League 2 ladder after a 0-0 draw against Brandon Park at Waratah Reserve, and has now slipped to second as a result of Knox City’s 5-0 win over Peninsula Strikers.

The Doves will face Doncaster Rovers on Saturday as they look to get back to the top.

Berwick City, meanwhile, suffered a 2-1 loss to Mazenod Victory, and are now sitting in fourth and four points away from the top.

City couldn’t quite get the games on their own terms in the entertaining match, with Victory holding an edge despite a goal to Jonathan Ichim in the 63rd minute.

The race for the top spots are still well and truly alive, with City and Doveton both in the four, while Knox City, Brandon Park and Mazenod Victory continue to be strong sides.

STATE LEAGUE 5 – SOUTH

Aspendale SC proved a class above in a brilliant opening half display against Pakenham United at Jack Grut Reserve, 3-0.

The Stingrays scored three first half goals to take in a major lead, and managed to hold onto that lead in the second half.

There was two red-cards in the match, with Garry Mousaco (Pakenham) and Dylan Langford-Povey (Aspendale) sent off late in the game.

Casey Panthers, meanwhile, suffered a 3-1 loss to Old Mentonians at Prospect Hill, with the Panthers proving a handful in attack.

In other games across the round, Drouin lost 3-0 to Endeavour Hills Fire at Bellbird Park, Chelsea FC defeated Lyndale United 2-0, White Star Dandenong scored a mammoth 7-0 win over Bunyip, while Rowville won 5-0 over Knox United at Park Ridge.
