A manhunt is underway for an offender wielding what police believe is a rifle in the Pakenham area following an altercation on Monday 24 March.

Officers were called to Livingstone Boulevard around 6.10pm on Monday night after a Pakenham mother of two witnessed a confrontation between two men on push bikes, one armed with firearm and two other males and a female.

Investigators understand the female walked away while the two male victims confronted the offender and chased him onto Heritage Boulevard.

While the offender ran towards Henry Road he fired two to three shots towards the victims and ran through Pakenham Springs Primary School, Detective Senior Constable Sheree Osborne said.

“We’ve been able to get limited information from the victims at this point,” she said.

“We believe the shots were fired towards the victims.

“There were quite a few people in the vicinity of the shopping centre but not in the school. There have no reported injuries.”

The victims, aged in their 20s, then fled the scene in a blue Holden Commodore sedan.

Police do not yet know whether the parties were known to one another.

The offender, believed to be in his early 20s, was last seen running east along Livingstone Boulevard on Monday night.

He was wearing a dark hooded jacket, black track suit pants and Asic runners and has an olive complexion, is around 180cm tall with a medium build.

“[His actions] just show complete disregard for the community and that’s why we’re urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.”

Det Sen Con Osborne assured reporters there was no known threat to community safety.

“It was a single incident just involving those parties.

“We are treating this quite seriously given the nature of it but there’s no other persons impacted.”

Cardinia Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating and have released CCTV and images of a man that may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
