Pakenham’s Living and Learning Centre and the Women’s Association South East Melbourne were lucky enough to secure funding under the Federal Government’s Community Grants Hub.
Member for La Trobe Jason Wood was pleased to announce an $87,000 grant to the Living and Learning Centre.
The grant will be used to build strong, socially cohesive communities including those that increase social contact, a sense of belonging and the satisfaction of contributing and supporting others.
The aim of the project is to address the challenges and breakdown some of the barriers facing the South Sudanese community in Cardinia and to foster better generational relationships and relationships with authorities by exploring ways to:
• Establish a youth focus group that works with Cardinia police to better relationships with young people.
• Create a Sudanese warden program of local leaders, targeting areas where young people congregate.
• Build a better understanding of the law and legal system.
The Women’s Association South East Melbourne will receive $322,300 that will be put towards establishing new Women’s Friendship Circles (WFC).
WFC has been developed to meet the needs of rapidly changing neighbourhoods.
