A serious collision has closed Cardinia Road in both directions between the Pakenham Bypass and Ballarto Road.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 9am on Monday 8 July, with Ambulance Victoria dispatching two air ambulances to the scene.

Ambulance Victoria has confirmed that two men, both aged in their 20s, were trapped in a vehicle.

It’s believed a Ute with a trailer load of bricks collided head-on with a truck.

Both men have been flown by air ambulance to The Alfred hospital.

The first man to be extricated is in a serious but stable condition, with injuries to his arm, legs and face.

The other man, who was trapped for longer, is in a stable condition with injuries to his pelvis.

SES Members from the Pakenham Unit said it was a difficult rescue which required heavy haulage to lift the truck from the Ute.

The engine of the Ute was under the truck and the force of the crash combined with the trailer load of bricks forced the chassis of the Ute to be almost upright.

Major Crash Investigation Unit officers have begun their investigations.
