Pakenham Bowls Club members and visitors will protected from the sun’s harmful UV rays, thanks to almost $50,000 state funding to install a shade structure over the green.

Bass MP Jordan Crugnale announced Pakenham Bowls Club will receive a share in almost $1 million from the fourth round of the Community Shade Grants Program.

“We know how much Australians love the outdoors. These grants mean that locals can enjoy even more the Bass electorate’s great parks, sports fields and playgrounds while staying Sun Smart,” Ms Crugnale said.

“Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer in Australia. That’s why this program is so important to the community of the electorate of Bass.”

Pakenham Bowls club will receive $45,455 to erect permanent shade.

Meanwhile, Officer Football Club and Kooweerup Preschool will receive grants to purchase sun protective items.
