Without having the chance to think, a Good Samaritan donated and delivered a water tank to the Garfield Community Garden – the day after its 1000 litre tank was stolen.

Brendan Sheedy of Bunyip Skip Bins immediately offered to donate a replacement tank of the same capacity.

The community garden’s water tank was stolen between Friday 21 and Saturday 22 February.

Garfield Community Garden member Megan Platte and her partner, Mal Boyd, arrived at the garden on Saturday morning, before discovering the theft.

The theft of the blue grey tank with pink weather discolouration on top was the first major item stolen from the garden.

The thieves emptied the water first to lighten the tank before they took it away. Police have been notified and are investigating.

“It’s the spirit and generosity of our local community shining through,” Ms Platte said.

“We greatly appreciate Brendan’s gift.”

Garfield Community Garden has a core membership of 15 people and since its inception

a few short years ago has grown into a valuable, much loved thriving community asset.

“Anyone can pop down here and pick some produce to take home.”
