Open space for Officer

The Officer open space area masterplan design.

By Jessica Anstice

A designer has been appointed by Cardinia Shire Council to create a new open space leisure area for the community in Officer.

After two rounds of community consultation in 2016, a masterplan was formed and Officer District Park was identified as a suitable site for the open space area.

The park will include a play space, cafe, wetlands, a fitness zone and stairs, adventure trails, a skate facility, an off-lead dog area, a lookout and more.

The play space will focus on active adventurous play opportunities for all ages, incorporating junior elements, space for tweens, teens and adults who are willing to be challenged.

Combining parkour, an obstacle course, long slides, climbing walls, ropes and balance beams, the space will be an exciting and iconic space for all.

The cafe will provide social opportunities for the community to meet, enjoy a hot drink and food whilst using the reserve’s facilities.

A regional level state park will provide skate, BMX and scooter opportunities and will be able to cater to large events.

The masterplan will assist in the detailed design of the site, which EPCAD Pty Ltd will undertake.

A price for the detailed design and delivery of the project was estimated at $4.7 million.
