Feedback wanted on roam free dog parks

The draft design for an off-leash dog area at Don Jackson Reserve in Pakenham.

By Jessica Anstice

Draft designs for number of potential dog parks in Cardinia shire are on display, waiting for community feedback.

Cardinia Shire Council has invited dog owners and residents to have their say of the draft designs and proposed infrastructure and landscaping to be delivered at designated off-leash sites.

There are three different categories of designated dog off-leash areas, including neighbourhood, district and regional.

Neighbourhood sites include: Bob Burgess Reserve, Beaconsfield, Vantage Drive Reserve, Pakenham, Simon Drive Reserve, Pakenham, Ray Canobie Reserve, Pakenham and Onyx Reserve, Officer.

District sites are: Pepi’s Land, Emerald, Cockatoo Road Reserve, Pakenham, Garfield Recreation Reserve, Garfield and Tantallon Boulevard Detention Basin Reserve, Beaconsfield.

Regional sites: Toomuc Creek Linear Reserve, Pakenham, Alma Treloar Reserve, Cockatoo, Don Jackson Reserve, Pakenham and Cochrane Park, Kooweerup.

Whilst all 13 of these areas across the shire will have signage, the infrastructure and landscaping to be installed will vary from site-to-site.

Neighbourhood sites may include signage, garden and vegetation, seating, pathways, natural shade and partial or no fencing, while district sites could include all of that plus rubbish bins and a drinking fountain.

Everything listed above, as well as agility equipment and car parking will be considered for the regional sites.

The council is seeking community feedback on the delivery of this infrastructure and landscaping, and in particular, on the draft designs for the four designated regional dog off-leash sites across the shire.

The consultation is open until 5pm on Wednesday 20 May.

Feedback from this consultation will help to inform the final designs, infrastructure and landscaping decisions for each of the 13 designated off-leash sites.

For more information, including reviewing the draft designs, and to have your say, visit www.cardinia.vic.gov.au/haveyoursay.

All dog owners are also being reminded that dogs are required to be on-leash in public at all other times within Cardinia shire.

The shared designated off-leash spaces enable dogs to enjoy off-leash activities within the community and under the supervision of their owners.
