Emerald SES volunteers worked tirelessly over the weekend to give their unit a much-needed revamp.

The SES unit, located along Old Gembrook Road, is in the process of being repainted and having a new floor installed.

Emerald SES volunteer, Rob Fazzino, said the unit was in desperate need of a little TLC.

“We’ve been in the unit for more than 35 years so we’re just giving it a bit of a spruce up,” Mr Fazzino said.

“It’s better for us all that the unit looks good – the members all chipped in during the weekend.

“We’re a unit that responds to over 11,000 jobs a year – it just gets knocked about.”

Emerald SES volunteers Amelia Clapton, Jim Paxton, Kerry Fazzino, Brendan Smith and Karl Pedley.

Over the weekend and with the wet weather, Emerald SES volunteers responded to more than 20 calls for assistance.

“We were painting and then chucking overalls on and running out to jobs,” he said.

“There were trees over roads and all the rest of it.”

The small upgrades will be the last hurrah for the current station before the unit moves to a new location in 12 to 18 months.

The unit is close to awarding the contract at its new facility where the told Mitre 10 garden centre was in Emerald.
