A reported case of Covid-19 has been detected at Pakenham Primary School, prompting a precautionary closure.

The school and the Big Childcare Outside School Hours Care program will remain closed to all students, staff and members of the community for at least 24 hours.

In a letter to the school community via Compass, principal Gail Butterworth said the case had been reported to the Department of Education and Training (DET) and was being investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

“During the initial closure period, all students and staff must remain at home while DHHS undertakes contact tracing,” she said.

“This includes limiting movements to home-based activities and not attending public places.

“We will provide further information following confirmation of advice from DHHS.”

From Wednesday 5 August until at least Sunday 13 September, all Victorian school students will learn from home – with the exception of children whose parents are permitted workers and vulnerable kids who can’t learn from home.

As of Wednesday 5 August, there was 55 active cases in Cardinia, 326 in Casey, 193 in Greater Dandenong, 132 in Yarra Ranges and six in Baw Baw.
