SES volunteers are again preparing for a potential spike in calls for help, after a damaging wind warning was put in place for Wednesday 2 September.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued the warning and stated there was a potential for 90 to 100 km/h winds throughout Wednesday morning.

BOM senior forecaster Michael Efron said it was likely the strong gusts would remain until the latter part of the afternoon.

He said while the winds weren’t predicted to be as strong as last Thursday’s freak storm, they were still strong enough to cause damage across the landscape.

“Be aware of the conditions with those winds picking up throughout Wednesday morning and not easing until the latter part of Wednesday afternoon,” he said.

Mr Efron warned that recent rainfall throughout August could easily dislodge trees from soil.

Emerald SES unit controller Ben Owen urged the community to ensure they were best prepared to respond to the windy conditions.

“Be alert but not alarmed,” he said.

“We have SES and CFA crews all prepared and ready to respond. Again, be patient if we get a lot of calls.”

An AusNet spokeswoman advised customers to have their mobile phones charged in the event that power is again cut.

Life support customers should consider their contingency plans and are reminded that the Department of Health and Human (Services) has advised that you can leave your home in an emergency to seek medical care or if you require power for your life support equipment or ventilator.

For non-life threatening assistance, call the SES on 132 500.
