Tree falls on tracks

Buses are replacing trains after a tree fell across the rail lines and damaged the overhead wires near Beaconsfield.

Wednesday morning’s windy weather caused a large tree to come down, landing across the railway line near Brunt Road about 10.48am.

Passengers on board a train that was stopped near the incident were advised by Public Transport Victoria (PTV) to remain on the train.

Crews were on the way to assess the damage about 12.30pm, and Authorised Officers were assisting passengers.

Buses are now replacing trains from Dandenong to Pakenham, with an expected travel time of 45 minutes.

Coaches are also replacing V/Line trains between Traralgon and Pakenham.

The lines will re-open and services will resume when the tree is clear and any repairs are complete.

PTV encourages passengers to consider alternative transport options if possible, otherwise check station platform displays and listen for announcements.
