Footage has emerged online of a vehicle “smashing” a series of burnouts along one of Pakenham’s busiest roads.

The dangerous stunt, which was widely shared on social media, purportedly shows a black vehicle performing the burnouts along the Princes Highway.

The 50-second footage, which appears to have been filmed by a passenger travelling behind the hoon driver, was captured between the Taco Bill restaurant and the McGregor Road intersection.

The person behind the camera is heard cheering on the hoon, before the offending car is seen turning left down McGregor Road.

It’s unknown what day or time the incident occurred but the video appears to show a number of other motorists on the road at the time.

Fresh skid marks were visible and a number of law-abiding motorists were forced to slow down to avoid the clouds of smoke.

The video was posted to a Facebook group called ‘Lockdown skids’ on Sunday 6 December. That group has more than 220,000 members and the original video has since been shared more than 330 times.

Cardinia Highway Patrol confirmed they hadn’t been made aware of, or received any footage in relation to the alleged incident.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said community members were encouraged to report all forms of crime and road policing issues, including hoon behaviour.

“Victoria Police takes hooning incidents extremely seriously and we will hold those involved to account,” the spokesman said.

“Drivers face hefty fines, loss of licence and a possible vehicle impound. Taking away someone’s ability to put themselves and others in danger is a powerful way to prevent death and serious injury on our roads, and we will enact these powers wherever an opportunity exists.”

People who want to report ongoing hoon-related behaviour are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
