Longwarry and Modella are two of four towns in Baw Baw Shire to receive council grants for community suggested upgrade projects.

The Placemaking Program allocates $200,000 to delivering rural communities with projects that have been at the top of their list.

This year Longwarry North will be able to extend the footpath to the Princes Way walking track from the Thornell’s Reserve walking track and Modella will see improvements to the tennis court, car parking and the removal of the existing shed at Modella Recreation Reserve.

“It was a pleasure to go out to Longwarry North and Modella and hear directly from residents about how they’d like to improve their patch of the world,” Councillor Ben Lucas said.

“I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to be part of the process and I look forward to seeing the projects progress.”

Placemaking projects are decided through consultation with the community and by refining their ideas of what is needed in the area.

This is the third year Baw Baw Shire Council has run the Placemaking Program as part of the 2017-2021 Council Plan.
