The team at Cannibal Creek Winery must be doing something right as they have been nationally recognised for their stellar cellar door yet again, taking out another award in this year’s Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s annual competition.

The family run winery, located on a lush piece of countryside in Tynong, has won the award for ‘best large cellar door’ in the Gippsland region for the second year running – a fantastic achievement after two particularly trying years.

Kirsten Hardiker, who runs Cannibal Creek Winery with her husband Patrick, said that it was “lovely” to have been recognised for all their hard work.

“Being a national magazine, it’s really good to get that calibre of recognition,” Ms Hardiker said.

“It’s nice that what we’ve created here with the food matches the quality of our wines.”

Ms Hardiker said that Cannibal Creek Winery’s tasty drops were all “grown and made” on site, and they had a wide variety of reds and whites to suit every palate.

“We grow five varieties here; sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir, merlot and cabernet sauvignon, and we make a sparkling from our chardonnay and a liqueur from our reds,” she said.

Ms Hardiker said that over the sixteen years they have been running their cellar door their wines had picked up many awards, but it was always nice to be recognised, particularly after everything came to a grinding halt last year.

“There have been so many uncertainties with the fires and then Covid, so it’s just about getting the word out there that we’re open again,” Ms Hardiker said.

The team at Cannibal Creek Winery also wanted to thank the local community for all their support over the last two turbulent years.

“We’ve just been so wrapped with the local support,” Ms Hardiker said.

“The community have really come together and the support has just been brilliant.”

Cannibal Creek Winery is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and features a range of tasting and dining experiences.
